Just in case you don’t get it – those big white stones are certified genuine Canaanite standing stones. I asked the students to bow down before them so I could take a picture illustrating the Bible, and one of them asked – is this ok? What do you think?
My response: these aren’t the idols that are the problems in your life.
“Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.” (1 John 5:21)
hmmm, looking at the picture makes me think how ridiculous it was for people then, and now to bow/humble themselves to something so lifeless, so not in control, so silly…yet, I am reminded that I am my biggest idol, and all of the above applies to me as well. A very good, visual reminder of my inadequacy, and God’s provision. He gives us what is good and only should be worshipped, Himself; yet, how often we turn from this great feast to the slime of ourselves to eat and think we might be better satisfied. Praise God for His word and constant reminder (via the work of the Spirit) of each of our idols, and how stupid they are, and how perfect and worthy He is!
They sure cleaned up around Gezer, didn’t they? I don’t think it was wrong to have the students feign worship, considering your purpose (which the first sentence of Ilena’s comment reflects).
