New Blog Location

By | August 2, 2006

The new location for this blog (www.ToddBolen.com) is intended to make this blog location easier to remember for my friends. It is not a move to make this a more public blog; it is still a personal blog, intended for my friends and former students. Others may find and read, and I can’t stop them, but that doesn’t change who I am writing for.

I took the opportunity of a new domain to switch from Blogger to WordPress. Blogger is real simple, and my needs are very basic, but I was motivated to switch because Blogger was too often unreliable.

WordPress is a popular alternative and I have found why. I like the fact that there is no external program that can go down (it’s all installed on my server). I like the open source nature of it, which means there are lots of cool plugins and templates. I like the categories (I’m still adding those to my previous posts), and I like the way that comments are attached to particular posts (so I can figure out what the comment pertains to; this is impossible with blogger). And I like the Live Search feature (see the top right). The switchover has been relatively painless, for those who might consider switching also.

I believe that I have moved all of the posts from the previous blog to the new one, so you shouldn’t need to access the old one. But I will leave it up for the time being. But everything new will be at www.ToddBolen.com. You can get the RSS feed here (https://toddbolen.com/feed/rss/).

I’ve thought for sometime of dumping the boring name of this blog, in favor of something like:

Bolen Alley
Bolen’s Briefs
Over the Fence
Judean Hillbilly
FenceClimber
Todd’s Tells & Tales
Tells and Wadis

For now, I think I’ll stick with the boring.

Looks good. What do you think about putting the “Recent Articles” panel higher on the right? Although this one looks a lot more polished than the Blogger version, the right column carries so much visual weight that I find the posts harder to read here.

    Keep posting!

Nice blog. As for a name … Todd’s Tells and Tales isn’t too bad. You need to have something with an Israeli bent to it.

BTW … I already have a name for any blog that Randy might start: Cookie Time!

Come on Todd, don’t forget to use your favorite names: Wadi Toddi, Todd the Magnificant, Turtle, Turtle…

Should I keep going or do you have enough ideas now? :)

You know, if you collected a list of all your nicknames over the years, I bet it would be pretty long, and interesting!

    Todd,
I like this new one…you just need to transfer over your picture or maybe other pictures like family ones! :) I have been thinking of you all and praying for you frequently. Thanks for keeping your friends and former students :) in touch with you. I appreciate it and check this blog pretty much daily. The Lord bless you.

I’ll have to get used to the change, but I prefer WordPress, too. The new site looks nice.

Todd, I love it! Especially the ladybugs, those are a nice touch. :) It has meant more to me than you know to retain a link (pun intended) with Israel and the IBEX family by keeping up with your blogs. Thanks for your intentional, purposeful encouragement to friends and students and student-friends.

    Dear Mr. Bollen,

My daughter Meisha was with you at IBEX in the Spring of 2005. She enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for your input into her life.

My Son, Lester, is planning on coming from The Master’s College this coming January. Are plans still in place for IBEX to carry on? What about for this Fall?

May God give you great grace during this time of great testing. I appreciated the list of verses you posted in a pdf file. Those have been passed on to a young soldier in the 82nd Airborne that is going to Iraq next week. His parents are missionaries here in Taiwan with us and he was a high school classmate of our son.

    Sincerely, Craig Preston

Todd- I like the site, its more…you…ya know, organized, neat, precise…etc. But, I will have to disagree with another commenter- the ladybugs, well…they’re “interesting”. “Bolen’s Briefs” and “Bollen Alley” are my favorite because they make me laugh! But, Kate’s “Wadi Toddi” is quite funny too. But, hey, leave it up to you and we all know it will be insightful, fun, and unique.

You’re gonna hate this, but how about Sponge Todd Smarty Pants? Tracy and I would visit the site more often…But you may be trying to avoid that…

Maybe I should just call this the “Pick on Todd” blog. I certainly didn’t intend for this to provoke the public airing of all of those names. I wish you well nonetheless! :-)

I always liked your name, T-Bone . . . so how about T-Bone’s Tall Tells. Bla. Anyways, I’ve got your links updated at the Moor and at the TMS Alumni blog.
