Is the subtext of Piper’s message (he takes the liberty to assume what the anonymous theology meant, so I’ll take it with him), that God ONLY speaks through scripture?
On a sidenote, I’ve never heard God “overtly/emperically” speak, but when I do hear His voice, it’s usually a result of God bringing the scriptures to my mind in a very clear way.
Stratkey – I understand him to say that a personal experience of the voice of God should not be taken as superior to the voice of God in the Scriptures. I don’t think he intended to rule out the possibility of God speaking personally today.
