I just received this brief email concerning the PhD program:
Congratulations! You passed the written qualifying exam.
If I hadn’t passed, I would have had a lot of extra free time. No future, but a lot of free time. The oral exam is scheduled for Nov 1, 1:00 p.m. There a group of professors will grill me on my knowledge of the Bible.
Congrats, Todd! Mazel tov! I’m sure you will do fine at the next step. You know enough already for a PhD, in my book.

That’s awesome! Not that I am surprised. I have the feeling that you are going to be the type of student that teachers love having in their class. I agree with Sam, I wish I could be at your next exam.

Ah, my friend. The beginning of the end. After 4 straight days of working on my dissertation, I do not envy you. . .Here’s hoping I get done with my program before you do. : )

This morning the students were quickly cramming for their Galilee quiz in the email room, when all of the sudden the screen saver came on that was a slideshow of your pictures. They were of Galiee, and the students used the screen saver to study. They thought you took amazing pictures and were shocked by how green everything was. Thank you for all of your hard work studying and documenting the land of Israel. We miss you!
Todd: Praise the Lord, and congratulations! I hope people don’t neglect to pray for and encourage you simply because you already know a lot and have taught for a decade. I know that the program will still be rigorous – or else you wouldn’t have chosen it. Press on!
