If you think gas prices are high here, you should try filling up your tank in Turkey!
Those who take things like this seriously might want to know that 1) I took the photo on January 1, 2001; 2) Turkey now uses the Euro; 3) gas prices in Turkey were $8/gallon in 2005, and I’m not sure what it is now; 4) I am setting up Live Writer on my portable computer and this is essentially a test post.
Todd, far be it for me to correct you, but I don’t think Turkey is on the Euro yet. A few years ago they issues a new devalued currency, the New Turkish Lira (NTL). It was devalued by 1,000,000 to 1. It does make life simpler.
I remember the first time I got Turkish Lira out of an ATM. It was hard to push the button that confirmed I wanted 60 million – about $40 USD at the time.
In 2005 I was in Turkey and rented a Ford Focus. It was $100 USD to fill the tank (about 12 gallons) then, I can’t imagine what it is now. I just paid $100 to fill my full size van and that hurt.

Al – of course you’re right on the currency. I had in my head that my old Turkish Liras were no good, and in my haste, I translated that incorrectly.
