My daughter got a perfect score on a test this week. According to the teacher’s answer key, I would certainly have missed this question:
People have three basic needs. What are these needs?
a. food, TV, cell phone
b. clothing, books, food
c. TV, clothing, shelter
d. food, shelter, clothing
I’m hoping the correct answer was D, but I’d understand if you would require books in your personal survival kit!
I believe that “B” is the only correct answer. And after all, if you have enough books, you can build a shelter.
Wow. Well, by basic human needs, they obviously only meant physical ones. So books wouldn’t count. If it’s any basic human needs, then God would have to top the list.
After that, you can go with books. :)
Really? This is a question on a test in a public school? It kind of makes me want to throw up. Aren’t there more important things to teach children today? YES! As a teacher, myself, I know that there are more important things to teach students. (Sorry, I always get rather disgusted with public school curriculum and teaching theory.)
Technically none of them are correct. In fact, the question is not even phrased correctly. There really are only TWO needs: food & clothing.
1 Timothy 6:8
“But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”
Matthew 6:31-32
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat? ‘ or ‘What shall we drink? ‘ or ‘What shall we wear? ‘ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you NEED them all.” (emphasis added)
Shelter is really optional. It may not feel optional in the dead of winter in Minnesota, but nevertheless, it did not make the biblical list.
I’m pretty sure that clothing is also optional (check out other cultures). Sooooo, I think things just got significantly less complicated.
Thanx school. I guess it’s true, everything I needed to know I really did learn in kindergarten.
and Lisa’s comment about building a shelter with books… made me laugh out loud
