A Long Hike

By | September 22, 2009

An American Christian guy is hiking the Israel Trail, reports the Jerusalem Post, and I’m wondering if they have an article about me.  No, my doctoral dissertation is not on “hiking trails and tourism in Israel.”  Where did I lose my way?

If you ‘re an IBEX alumnus, you should join the Facebook group.  If you are a member, then today you got this update about those of us not currently in Israel.

Since I’m in a reminiscing mood, here are a few photos from that hike in 2000, from Dan to Caesarea (minus a bit in the middle).

Seriously, when are you going to do another alumni hike…because I would empty my savings account, if I had to, and I’d be there in a heart beat! I want to go back!

Todd, I wasn’t in a reminiscing mood, but I have been since I read this. I will forever remember the friends, the food, the beauty of the land, and the enormous blisters!

Ilena – when I finished that hike, I said never again. But I did think about another kind of alumni trip (with less hiking and more swimming). I even planned it out. If I remember right, 9/11 and related got in the way. About a week ago I thought more seriously than I have in a long time about whether I could make it work, and I concluded that it would be too difficult from this side of the ocean. There’s just too much in terms of logistics to set up, and you can’t do it from here. That’s my thoughts as of today.

    Todd-
Well, I guess there is always the “free trip,” as my dad always says (i.e. when Jesus comes back). But, seriously, I’m getting back there someday, somehow, and there will be biking, hiking, swimming, floating, and serious magnum bar consumption!
