{"id":509,"date":"2007-06-04T11:55:31","date_gmt":"2007-06-04T08:55:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/toddbolen.com\/2007\/06\/04\/this-book-i-want\/"},"modified":"2007-06-04T11:55:31","modified_gmt":"2007-06-04T08:55:31","slug":"this-book-i-want","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toddbolen.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/04\/this-book-i-want\/","title":{"rendered":"This Book I Want"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/toddbolen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ThisBookIWant_A46F\/image.png\" atomicselection=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 10px; border-right-width: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/toddbolen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ThisBookIWant_A46F\/image_thumb.png\" width=\"120\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\"><\/a> About six months ago I ordered a commentary of I Kings, by Cogan and Tadmor.&nbsp; One of the series of the Anchor Bible, it&#8217;s written by a couple of top scholars but is otherwise a rather ordinary commentary that was published in 2001.&nbsp; I ordered it from Amazon for about $30.&nbsp; Surveying a list of others in the series at Amazon indicates that $30 is the average price.&nbsp; Sometime after my order, Amazon sent me a message that the book was unavailable and the order was cancelled.&nbsp; Since that time I have kept my eyes out for it from another source, without success.&nbsp; Today I see that one is available from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abebooks.com\/servlet\/BookDetails?bi=911939062\">bookstore in Hialeah, Florida<\/a> for a mere $2,736.18.&nbsp; AmazonUK has another for $579.&nbsp; Now I have a few questions:<\/p>\n<p>1. Is this book really so impossible to find?<\/p>\n<p>2. How does a bookseller determine that the book is worth this much?&nbsp; Why not $999?&nbsp; Why not $52,799?<\/p>\n<p>3. Is there <em>any chance<\/em> at all that someone out there will pay $2,736 for&nbsp;a book that&#8217;s only five years old, that will never have any special status, and that can easily be&nbsp;borrowed from&nbsp;a decent Bible college library?<\/p>\n<p>4.
