{"id":874,"date":"2009-09-01T21:13:56","date_gmt":"2009-09-02T02:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/toddbolen.com\/2009\/09\/01\/wisdom-on-women-from-sirach\/"},"modified":"2009-09-01T21:13:56","modified_gmt":"2009-09-02T02:13:56","slug":"wisdom-on-women-from-sirach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toddbolen.com\/blog\/2009\/09\/01\/wisdom-on-women-from-sirach\/","title":{"rendered":"Wisdom on Women (from Sirach)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This series hasn&#8217;t garnered the controversy that my rather subdued but honest comments about <a href=\"https:\/\/toddbolen.com\/2009\/08\/27\/everywhere-is-beautiful\/\">Texas<\/a> have, but perhaps today&#8217;s marriage advice will change that.<\/p>\n<p>Sirach 25:21 (NRSV) <strong>&#8220;Do not be ensnared by a woman&#8217;s beauty, and do not desire a woman for her possessions.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The things that attract young men are the least important and the most temporary&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sirach 26:1-4 (NRSV) <strong>&#8220;Happy is the husband of a good wife; the number of his days will be doubled. 2 A loyal wife brings joy to her husband, and he will complete his years in peace. 3 A good wife is a great blessing; she will be granted among the blessings of the man who fears the Lord. 4 Whether rich or poor, his heart is content, and at all times his face is cheerful.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Happy, content, cheerful, blessed&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sirach 26:14 (NRSV) <strong>&#8220;A silent wife is a gift from the Lord, and nothing is so precious as her self-discipline.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>I guess I&#8217;m not the only one who likes coming home without being bombarded&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sirach 36:29 (NRSV) <strong>&#8220;He who acquires a wife gets his best possession, a helper fit for him and a pillar of support.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>His best possession.&#160; Yet some people spend longer shopping for a car or a house&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sirach 40:23 (NRSV) <strong>&#8220;A friend or companion is always welcome, but a sensible wife is better than either.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Amen!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This series hasn&#8217;t garnered the controversy that my rather subdued but honest comments about Texas have, but perhaps today&#8217;s marriage advice will change that.
