Today

By | April 1, 2007

I am feeling good today.   At home this morning the kids were just so well behaved, each sharing with one another and not an angry word or yell to be heard.   After eating my favorite breakfast (pancakes with sausage gravy), I headed up to the office.   Among the mail waiting for me was a long letter from an old friend describing his exceptional spiritual successes in recent times.   Someone stopped by and told me the moshav breakfast was stellar, notwithstanding the current Passover preparations and blessed rabbinic regulations.   Ever encouraged, I set my mind to my favorite task: grading research papers.   These were so carefully researched and written as to make me think that there really is no need to require the class to submit a second draft.   I finished these so quickly and without any interruptions and so I was excited to start writing the quizzes for the Galilee trip.   This task is so much easier now that I have converted to Mac.   The quizzes almost seem to write themselves!   Since hardly any of the morning or afternoon had passed by, I reached for book #10 of the month and finished that before lunch.   Now with the entire afternoon ahead of me, I have lots of time to come up with a good April Fool’s day joke.

Yesterday was my last day teaching with the SMM.

Ha ha. I was sitting here laughing at this post in the room next store to you… but since I know a little bit about what your day has REALLY been like, I will not go interrupt you to tell you I thought it was funny. =)

Todd…I have a slight suspicion that this isn’t true…especially since it’s April Fools. Glad to see that you all are back safely from Galilee. Now hopefully my roommate will email me soon! :o)

Soooo, what did you really do?! At least you didn’t lose your job this year… :)

P.S. That was referring to your joke last year…

Todd, there’s a strong “name-it-and-claim-it” theology behind all of this. I suspect you’ve been listening to more of those Joel Osteen sermons I sent you. Just add on an application about how smiling allows God to bless you more and your journey to the Happy Side will be complete.

Todd, I was feeling so happy for you at first. Then I read the Mac part and knew it was all a sham (I guess the stellar moshav breakfast and no 2nd draft parts should have been dead giveaways). Now…..I don’t know what I feel….just kinda sad….and confused. Good to hear the kids are being little angels though. ;)

I didn’t think pancakes and sausage would make a good combo . . ., wait, do they?

I’ve never tried the pancakes and gravy together, but like them both….. so I don’t see why they couldn’t work together. I agree with Ryan that your getting a mac was the worst giveaway (especially your post not too long ago regarding one of your mac “apostate” friends. :)

Nate – the part about pancakes and sausage gravy is entirely true. Except that I’ve had it anytime in the last 9 months.

    Todd,

I always enjoy reading your posts. You didn’t have me very fooled…the mac comment gave it away; the added comment about students not needing to write a second draft put it over the top. Enjoy the seder. And refering to Jennica’s comment, what really happened yesterday?

Rachel – the exact opposite of everything that I wrote. The April Fool’s joke was the blog entry and I did it on my way out the door going home for dinner. There was no book #10 (or #1-9 for that matter). Breakfast was so bad we abandoned the caf and started our own food service in the miklat (for one week). The photo caption, however, was true.

I’m really sorry about the other day being your last day teaching from the SMM. Makes me appreciate what I’ve had for the last two months. I wish the rest of the post was as true as the caption on the photo.
(btw, I have a Mac…if you want to try writing our final on it, you are more than welcome to borrow it :)

Todd, you do know that you’re not allowed to leave Israel until you recruit someone to take your place.

Seriously, you have offered a unique ministy through your blogs and newsletters and “on the spot” pictures of new finds. This will be hard to do from Texas.

    Thanks!

Todd, it took me a while but that was very clever. Funny.

Todd, I never had sausage gravy ’till I moved to the South…but I think it would be great with pancakes, since I also like sausage and maple syrup.
Yes, I just now read this (It appears my husband was well ahead of me in keeping up with your life from the fact that he commented) and I had to say, as soon as I heard “sausage”–having lived in Israel for a bit, I was quite confused. I am really sad that the part about the kids isn’t true–every day I pray for that kind of miracle to happen with the ones I babysit daily–still hopeful!
