Facebook

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who know what Facebook is and those who don’t.  If you’re in the latter category like me, you can learn more about it from the cover article of this week’s Newsweek.  A lot of people apparently like it.  To me it’s like a beer: I don’t know what I’m missing, and I’m ok with that.

“In five years,” he said, “we’ll have everybody on the planet on Facebook.”

So…if that happens, can I buy you a beer?

David – I think that is the funniest comment ever on this blog. Thanks!

You know Todd, that is how I used to think. That is how it worked with Xanga for me, everyone I knew seemed to be getting on and communicating through it (except me). So eventually I took the time to learn it and get a blog through Xanga. Well, wouldn’t you know it, by the time I was proficient at that people were all talking about facebook…and Xanga became much quieter with ess interaction. So again I was behind the times….and then people in my family (including my wife) were all on there and communicating and sharing pictures and even my best (?) guy friend got into it (about the time he also got into ipod’s…..maybe I would have taken a warning if I had been reading your blog and learned how much I should avoid Apple, but alas I was in darkness at that time still). SO to make a long story short (too late) I found out what I was “missing”….communication and picture sharing that was not going on in the channels I was already familiar with. Yes, I could still call people, and you can still e-mail pictures, but I can check up on old IJS (or in your case IBEX) people and see pictures of their little kiddos, as well as, (more interestingly) see pictures of my nieces and nephews in a more convenient format and faster (at least they thought so). SO regardless of what I wanted, it became the medium that “they” used, so eventually I decided to stop being stubborn and I gave in. I feel like I must confess as well, because of my lack of stubborness (my spell checker says that is not a word) even my mother has gotten on facebook now….probably just to see pictures of my house and life.

However, from MY preference, I would rather have a site like this one for communicating medium. A friend just showed me the website for WORDPRESS, and I may have to check it out….should seminary prove boring and easy so that time is not an issue to learn an even more complicated program than Facebook. Particularly if I want to have a cool web address like my name.com.
